This sci-fi comedy stars Orlando Jones and David Duchovny as community college professors who have uncovered evidence of rapidly evolving alien life from a meteorite. Our boy Seann William Scott plays an overzealous firefighter recruit who aids the professors in getting to the bottom of this strange alien invasion.

The Wheel of Chaos has spoken! The GBGBs are reviewing 10 Seann William Scott movies for season 8. This week they kick off the season with their review of "Dude Where's My Car" (2000), a classic in the pantheon of stoner comedies, starring Seann William Scott and Ashton Kutcher as a pair of goofballs who lost their car after a night of partying.

The Bunker: Don’t Look Up (2021)

Join the GBGBs on the final episode of their Apocalypse season with Don't Look Up (2021)! Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence star as modest astronomers who discover a giant comet on a collision course for Earth. They are then forced to pit themselves against the uninterested politicians and media pundits as they attempt to convince the world's leaders to take action. If you think this may sound like an allegory for something, congratulations M. Benoit Blanc, you've cracked this case wide open!

 

The boys also brainstorm alternative tactics for dodging a comet and write a pop-punk ode to Timothee Chalamet set to Weezer's Pork and Beans.  Okay they only do one of those things but you're gonna have to listen to find out which.

The Bunker - Star Trek First Contact (1996)

Well folks, we may be stretching the limit of our Apocalypse season theme but we watched the crown jewel of the TNG run: Star Trek First Contact. If you're not a Star Trek fan, don't worry, a few of our hosts are going into this movie cold so they'll be right there with you. This movie has it all, Borg, time travel, Borg Cubes, Moby Dick references, Borg Spheres, Picard speeches, a Borg Queen, Zephyr Cocrane, and a Borg Earth. Is this a bona fide Apocalypse movie? Who knows. Does this movie totally rule? At least one of us thinks so....

The Bunker - The End of Evangelion (1997)

Well folks, we did it. We reviewed the thrilling conclusion to Neon Genesis Evangelion without watching the actual show. The 3 of us did hardly any research beforehand and just tried to dive in and analyze it as a standalone movie. Was this a good idea? Obviously not. Was it enjoyable? Sorta. Was this the dumbest thing we have ever done on this podcast? Maybe. 

 

For the uninitiated, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a moody 90s anime that serves as a deconstruction of the "Mecha Anime" genre. If you don't know what that means, that's okay because we barely did either. This movie is a redo of the original anime ending which had been panned by fans and critics alike. This movie is regarded as the "proper" ending for the beloved series and is thought of as one of the best conclusions for an anime narrative arc. Too bad we had no idea.

The Bunker: Annihilation

The GBGBs step into THE SHIMMER this episode with their review of 2018's Annihilation! Based on The Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer, Annihilation stars Natalie Portman as an ex-military biologist tasked with joining a team to explore a mysterious phenomenon. Things get pretty twisted from there as the place known as "Area X" wreaks havoc on the minds and biology of the team. There's also a wicked lamprey alligator, a skeleton bear, and a liquid metal terminator clone so there's something for everybody!

The Bunker: Geostorm (2017)

This week the GBGBs bring on friend of the show RYAN (a separate Ryan from our current Ryan) to review GEOSTORM. This 2017 film starring Gerard Butler and Jim Sturgess makes you stop and think, "why was this movie made in 2017 and not during the great disaster boom of the mid 00s?" 

 

With the world threatened by the effects of climate change, Gerard Butler is the lead scientist in the creation of "Dutch Boy": a globe-spanning satellite net that uses lasers and weather missiles to control the Earth's climate. But *record scratch* it seems like sabotage is afoot when Dutch Boy mysteriously creates a series of disastrous weather patterns in specific portions of the world. 

 

We had some interesting reactions to this one, including one of us who was willing to take a stand and defend it from the critics.

The Bunker - Everything Everywhere All At Once

We're at the mid-season mark of our apocalypse-movie marathon, and what better way to celebrate the occasion than to watch one of the wildest movies of 2022? Everything Everywhere All At Once stars Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan as they navigate the multiverse to stop the evil Jobu Tupaki from consuming all universes with her everything bagel. EEAAO skillfully weaves some of the wackiest moments we've seen on this podcast into a beautiful narrative that includes conversations on nihilism and generational trauma. 

In the spirit of alternate universes and branching choices, the GBGBs also bring back their ill-advised "Would you rather" game....
