Good Boys Gone Bland

Out of respect for Garfield we are not releasing this episode on our usual Mondays, and it certainly has nothing to do with us being behind on our editing schedule. The GBGBs press further into the cat season with a review of Garfield (2004). This may be the most high profile cat we have discussed on this show and we hope we can do our lasagna-loving feline justice. Garfield stars Bill Murray as the titular cat who lives happily in a house with Jon Arbuckle (played by Breckin Meyer) until Jon brings home a new dog, Odie (played by several real-life dogs). When Odie goes missing, Garfield teams up with Jon and Liz (Jennifer Love Hewitt) to bring his new buddy home!

The GBGBs are deep into their cat season so they decided it was time they visit a planet full of cat people (?). This week they review AVATAR (2009)! If you've been living under a rock, Avatar is about a disabled ex-marine (Sam Worthington) who gets the chance to pilot a genetically engineered human-alien hybrid to help broker a deal with the Na'vi on a moon known as Pandora. He falls in love with another Na'vi (Zoe Saldana) while he begins to wonder if he might be on the wrong side of a war between corporate interests and the lush world of Pandora. There's also hissing, cat faces, cat tails, and giant alien panthers! So dust off those 3D glasses and pay a visit to one of the biggest movies ever made.

This week the GBGBs tackle a movie that is oft cited (perhaps wrongfully?) as one of the worst films ever made, Catwoman (2004)! We also rope in returning special guest Ali to watch and review this iconic movie for the cat season. Halle Berry stars as Patience Phillips, a shy, reserved employee at an evil pharmaceutical company who is resurrected by an immortal cat after an assassination attempt and imbued with supernatural abilities. Patience assumes the moniker, Catwoman, and prowls not-Gotham to seek justice against the evil company and other wrongdoers.

Jace and Denali embark on a bonus episode, reviewing the 1992 Stephen King film SLEEPWALKERS! This movie is King's first screenplay that was not adapted from one of his existing books. It stars Madchen Amick (of Twin Peaks fame) who faces a mother and son that are part of an immortal race of cat-human hybrids which travel from town to town feasting on the souls of virgins. This may be the one of the wildest movies we've reviewed for this season, so strap in....

"No, let's not do Garfield" we said.

"It would be too obvious" we said.

"I know, let's do the 1963 avant-garde Czech New Wave film, The Cassandra Cat" said one of us. 

"But that one isn't even available on streaming, it's literally just on Youtube. I don't think anyone has seen this!" said another. 

Despite this, the GBGBs have decided that the best course of action is to review this obscure Czech film about a cat who wears sunglasses. For the uninitiated, this movie is about an unappreciated school teacher named Robert who lives in a small town in Soviet-era Czechoslovakia. A circus comes into town and brings a mysterious acrobat and her bespectacled cat, Mokol, who possesses the power to make people literally change color based on their true nature when his sunglasses are removed. Chaos ensues and it is up to Robert and the schoolchildren to protect the cat from those who wish their true nature to be kept secret.

It's Bonus time! Jace was out of town so Ryan and Denali embarked on a review of the possibly catlike (?) Predator (1987)! Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Dutch, the leader of an elite mercenary squad sent to *REDACTED* to perform an extraction. However, a mysterious alien hunter lurks in the shadows to hunt Earth's most deadliest game.....

Oh those darn GBGBs are at it again! This week they review the 1965 original That Darn Cat, which stars a very real cat named DC. When a pair of bank robbers take a bank teller hostage, DC inadvertently reveals a series of clues that could lead FBI agent Zeke Kelso to solve the caper. This movie involves a lot of chasing a cat around and watching a guy get splashed with milkshakes over and over. If that's not your thing, TOO BAD we already watched it okay?? We can't undo watching this movie and now we have to do this contractually obligated review, what do you want us to do? Rent a time machine and use this revolutionary piece of technology to stop ourselves from watching this movie? One of us even enjoyed our watch! What else would we even watch? Lion King? TOO OBVIOUS! Ice Age? Not enough cats!

Oh boy... The GBGBs are back with a new entry in the Cat Season, and possibly a new entry in the Big Cat sub-season? Warning to our listeners, Cat People (1982) is a bit of an experience and you should probably read the description before watching. It stars Nastassia Kinski as Irena, who discovers that she is part of an ancient line of cat people who transform into leopards when they um..... Anyways, her estranged brother becomes instantly obsessed with her and it's up to Irena and her love interest, Oliver, to navigate this dark and dangerous family curse.....

This week they review Sabretooth (2002), a Sci-Fi Channel original movie about a genetically engineered Sabretooth who terrorizes campers after escaping into the California wilderness. This movie stars a very real Sabretooth tiger, along with John Rhys-Davies (of LOTR fame) and Josh Holloway (of Lost fame).

Ryan's out of town, so Jace and Denali are here with a bonus this week, reviewing 2024's Ricky Stanicky!

This movie stars Zach Efron, Jermaine Fowler, and Andrew Santino as 3 childhood friends who have created a non-existent friend to excuse themselves from all responsibilities. When their suspicious partners finally demand to meet this friend, the trio hires a Vegas performer played by John Cena to put on the performance of a lifetime. Hijinks ensue, and John Cena's character gets a little too attached to his newfound identity as Ricky Stanicky.
